From Gators to Glaciers

A while back we received an inquiry from Doug Mertz expressing interest in one of our Kevlar guideboats. Doug then said, "If I buy one, how will I get it home?"
       We said, "Where's home?"
       He said, "Alaska."
We said, "We'll bring the boat to the Port Townsend, after that, it's up to you."
Doug came down to Port Townsend with his wife (it was their 30th anniversary), collected the boat, packaged it up and put it on a barge in Seattle. $150 later it was in Juneau.

This is a photo of Doug at the foot of Mendenhall Glacier.

This next photo is of a nearly identical guideboat with a alligator near it in South Florida.
Don't adjust your television, the photo hasn't yet arrived.
We told John Giordiano about the photo of a boat near a glacier in Alaska and he said, "How about I get you a photo of my boat with an alligator nearby?"
We said, "You get us the photo and we'll put a page on the website, "From Gators to Glaciers."
Since we don't often get in tune the website, we figured, why not set it up so that when the photo arrives we'll just plunk it in?  Stay tuned for the arrival of the alligator.

A curious note about John and his boat. The first time he went out he accidentally touched the back of a manatee with his boat. The manatee flipped his or her tail and in an instant John and his brand new immaculate boat were covered with 300 pounds of muck and water and gravel flipped up with one swipe of the manatee's huge tail. Nobody was hurt, no prop scars on the manatee's back.....but a surprise, funny, nasty ending to a serene day on the water.
