Boats for Women

In days-gone-by, a woman's involvement with a boat was primarily as a passenger. Sometimes that's still true. But more and more, women are taking the oars. Light, fast, secure, beautiful and well- designed. What could be better?

Here is a note from Peggy, one of our customers in Vermont.

Hi guys....

I just watched your latest, the Outdoor Journal re-broadcast on Vermont Public Television and it reminded me that I've been meaning to contact you to tell you how attached I am to my Vermont Pack Boat.  Barely a day has gone by all winter that I have not counted down on the calendar when I can put my boat back into the water. I discovered pretty quickly that rowing this boat puts me into such a state of reverie and relaxation that even when a big wind and chop blows up on Lake Champlain, it doesn't bother me in the least. Rowing apparently goes right to what a neurologist calls the "James Brown center of the brain."  I never felt this level of confidence in my kayak, which is one of the older, relatively stable versions. The purchase of this boat is one of the best I have ever made. I know I will have my boat for a very long time. Thank you,  Peggy, Burlington, VT

There is a curious difference in how  men and women behave as passengers in our boats. Women almost always troll a hand or a least a few fingers in the water. Men never do. We offer the evidence even if we  lack a theory.

And, of course, for advanced practitioners....there's the double-troll.

     Champagne, anyone?
